How We Think About Impact

We back powerful ideas in their early stages to help them grow, scale their impact and garner additional funding and support. It is crucial that these projects have the potential to make a real impact on the way things are done. But what is it that makes a ‘powerful’, impactful project?
These are the three things that we consider when selecting new partners.
Potential for Impact: We look for projects that have the potential to drive exponential vs. incremental change. They address a clear need or gap in the current way things are done to drive systemic change. Selecting the right project, at the right time, with the right people behind it, is crucial to our impact.
Growing organizational capacity: A key part of our role is to help create a sustainable organization with the capability to drive impact at scale. We cover operating costs and amplify the investment with connections, partnership and profile. We take a long-term view, understanding that growth isn’t linear, enabling them to learn and attract further investment.
Impact on young people: the core purpose of our projects is to drive positive change for young people, equipping them with the skills, motivation and confidence to thrive in life, not just exams. The impact of each project is different based on their outcomes, but they share a common purpose to empower young people.
“Big Change are investing in people rather than projects and they are investing in people who want to see a real change, not just a minor improvement. They are open about being on a learning journey, and bringing everyone along on it. This way they have created a unique group of funders, founders and beneficiaries who are peers”
